Published August 26, 2016

On August 24, during the 2016 Clarks Summit University Convocation Chapel, Dr. Elaine Brown was promoted from associate professor to full professor, reaching the highest level of achievement in the professorship.

Years of Faithful Service

Brown has built an impressive record of academic and Christian service throughout her career. Her academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree from Cedarville University, a master’s degree from the University of Dayton and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in the area of Health and Physical Education from The Ohio State University.

“Her credentials as a professor have been well-earned and proven in the classroom,” says Dr. Bill Higley, vice president for academics. Brown taught at Cedarville University for 14 years and Pikesville University for three years, before joining the Clarks Summit University faculty in the fall of 2002.

Brown has faithfully served at Parker Hill Community Church in both their children’s and small group ministries.

Passion on the Field and in the Classroom

During her time at CSU, Brown has taught a variety of health and physical education courses, and she has served as chair of her department. She led in the creation of CSU’s HPE4Me program and was involved in the development of CSU’s Sports and Health Science programs.

Brown has served for five years as an assistant softball coach, and she is now in her sixth season as the head coach of the CSU women’s volleyball team.

“Brown has proven herself professionally and personally, teaching with distinction and passion in her field of expertise, and as such, she is a mentor to both her students and her peers,” continues Higley.

Of her promotion, Brown says, “It is an honor and privilege to reach this milestone in my academic career—To God Be the Glory! He has truly blessed me with the opportunity to invest in undergraduate and graduate students in health, physical education and sports.”
