Ministry Highlights

I had to follow up with some soldiers about family situations. One is doing very well, the other’s relationship has ended in divorce and the family situation has changed dramatically. Prayer for both of these families is necessary, first for salvation and secondly for the relationships.

I have been meeting with a fellow soldier and new church applicant at our church. These discussions have been encouraging though challenging at times.

Key Prayer Requests

Pray for the soldiers I come into contact with, some show curiosity but rarely to the point of being able to present the Gospel. Many soldiers have ‘Christian’ backgrounds that they are running from or struggling with.

Pray for evangelical opportunities with Soldiers and their families.

Pray for opportunity to witness to a lead Chaplain who needs to hear the Gospel from either his assistant or other fellow Chaplains.

Pray for my time management in completing this internship along with work and especially family life, there will be times I’m away from them for months at a time. There is also a potential to lose the opportunity to complete one of my projects that has been planned and partially completed, it would be a big help not to have to start a different project in its place.

Prominent Lessons

This month I have learned that the flexibility one is expected to have in the military for the quickly changing events does not exclude the Chaplain. I was asked to provide chaplain support for an Army Resilience briefing at the unit level and when I showed up for the event I found out that I was the only briefer and expected to cover the whole briefing. It really wasn’t a surprise to me but yet challenging to adjust within a few minutes for something I wasn’t expecting.

I’ve had the great opportunity to be raised and associated with a good group of Christians and churches. I learned that another local church, which I would have considered reputable, has a pastor that downplayed the importance of the Bible in a specific situation. It’s hard to learn of such things, and it may only be partially true, but it is a real problem that affects real people and real churches on a continuous basis. The attack on the Word and work of God is real from both inside and outside the church and this is just a reminder that we must be diligent in allowing the Spirit to work in our lives to please God and support the Church and its ministries.

Key Goals for the Next Month

Project one, interviewing chaplains, is finally ready to begin the leg work. I’ll be sending out questions and getting feedback from chaplains to begin compiling where to go from there.

The church technology project needs to get started, there has been some situational problems affecting the ability to work on this much but those should be out of the way for the next month. Finalizing the project proposal and beginning the work.

The “Strongbonds” project is not looking too good as the budget has been cut to a single event for the year and that is going to conflict with my Basic Officer Leadership Course (CH-BOLC). I plan on exploring other options such as a single day event, a special deployment event (which may have additional funding), or even an non-sanctioned event.
