Global Ministry Conference Focuses on Innovation in Global Ministry

Global Ministry Conference Focuses on Innovation in Global Ministry

Published January 8, 2017

From February 1-3, CSU’s Global Ministry Conference will explore the role of entrepreneurship and innovation as critical driveshafts in this era of global engagement. Centered on the theme “The Rise of the Missiopreneur,” the conference on the campus of Clarks Summit University in South Abington Township is open to students, alumni and community members free of charge.

A missiopreneur is someone deeply driven by the mission of God who fervently pursues innovative methods of engaging the world for Christ. Leading experts from the academic world, the corporate sector and the mission field will share insights and inspire attendees to consider a missiopreneur mindset.

Featured Speakers

Buhle Dlamini is a global business motivational speaker who specializes in leadership strategy and culture. Raised in a village in South Africa, Dlamini started his consulting firm at age 23 and has brought his lectures to four continents. He co-founded the Columbia Leadership Academy and won multiple entrepreneurship awards, including an award from Desmond Tutu. He will bring his perspective on the fast-changing global workplace.

Delana Durough, assistant professor of economics and business at Colorado Christian University, comes home to CSU, where she taught in the Business Administration program. Durough loves showing college students how economics, finance and quantitative analysis are relevant to “big ideas” like justice and poverty alleviation. She grew up in a family business, enjoys consulting with nonprofits and small businesses and loves to see God’s ministers make Jesus famous in the marketplace.

Jean Johnson is the author of “We Are Not The Hero: A Missionary’s Guide for Sharing Christ, Not a Culture of Dependency.” Johnson served as a missionary in Cambodia for 16 years, where she focused on pioneer church planting, on-the-job leadership training and oral strategies. She is currently the director of World Mission Associates. She will share her passion for mission and discipleship practices through the lens of dignity, sustainability and multiplication.

Innovative Learning

Darryl Meekins, conference director and a CSU adjunct professor based in South Africa, hopes attendees will see how the principles of innovation and creativity can be applied to missiology and that they will be “challenged intellectually and stirred spiritually to make a difference for God in this world.” He adds, “In an interconnected and technology driven world, the possibilities are indeed endless!”

Romans 12:11 states, “Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in Spirit, serve the Lord.” Missiopreneurs work hard at being more effective in the mission God has called them to, both at home and overseas.

GMC has become an event at which attendees can see what is on the cutting edge of discussions related to ministry in the US and abroad. “The world is changing all the time, and we need to have the competency and character to be able to understand and then use those changes for the Glory of God in this world,” says Meekins. “Fads come and go, but it is our ability to think well and develop the skills needed to engage with our world that will likely determine our long-term success. If all our students can think this way now, it will make things easier for them when they enter the marketplace of tomorrow!”
