“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” -Jim Elliot
When he was young, Jim Elliot longed to share the gospel with people who had never heard it. God led him to do that as a missionary to the Auca Indians of Central Ecuador.
“Bridge of Blood: Jim Elliot Takes Christ to the Aucas” tells the story of Jim Elliot’s missionary team, presented through the narrated perspective of his wife, Elisabeth Elliot. Much of the “Bridge of Blood” script is taken from the actual letters and diaries of the men and their wives. It is based on Elisabeth Elliot’s books “Through Gates of Splendor” and “Shadow of the Almighty.”
The first act of this readers’ theatre performance centers on Elliot’s background, as God gives Elliot a deep desire to spread the gospel to lost sinners. When he hears about the Auca Indians, an eccentric and intelligent group of people, Elliot knows he is called to share Christ with them. The act also introduces audiences to Pete Fleming, Ed McCully, Nate Saint and Roger Youderian. These missionary men come together to form “Operation Auca.” The second act, shows the missionaries and their families arrive in Ecuador and carry out “Operation Auca.”
The play covers sensitive subject matter; audience discretion is advised.
