Karen (Malin) Ford put Clarks Summit University women's
basketball on the map during her career that lasted from 1980-84. She led her teams in just about every statistical category in an era where there was no three-point arc, no official National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national tournament or All-Americans. Karen became one of the greatest scorers in program history with 1,934 points, averaging 20 points a game. The NCCAA East Region crowned her their MVP numerous times and she led her team to their first NCCAA Division II Women's National Invitational in the 1982-1983 season. With all eyes on her, Karen did not disappoint as she was named the Tournament MVP.
Derek Mosher played basketball at Clarks Summit University from 1988-1992. The grandson of Coach "Coachie Mo" Mosher, Derek averaged 20 points per game during his career. He was a two-time NCCAA Division II All-American and in his final season, Mosher led his team to the NCCAA Division II Championship and was named the National Tournament MVP. He was also recognized with the Pete Maravich Player of the Year award to cap off a tremendous career. Mosher currently sits in second on the all-time scoring list with 2,532 points.
Scott Huckaby's college career at Clarks Summit University
spanned from 1986-1990, where his teams went 81-37. He was a two-time NCCAA Division II All-American. By his senior season, Scott achieved numerous records, including most points per season with 899, most points per game with 46 and best free throw percentage in a game as he went 14-for-14 from the charity stripe. In his last two seasons, he led his team in scoring, assists and steals. Huckaby overtook Rick Cole for the all-time scoring lead with 2,374 points and now sits in 3rd behind former teammate Derek Mosher and Jason Penley.
Mike Show served as the head men's basketball coach at Clarks Summit University from 1994-2014. In his 20 years of coaching, Show won 279 games, compiling four 20 plus win seasons. He took his team to a number of NCCAA National Tournaments throughout his tenure and in 2006 was named the NCCAA Division II Coach of the Year. From 2004-2008, Show led the Defender Men's Basketball Program to an 81-31 record. In 2008, CSU defeated Cazenovia College 84-73 to win their first ever North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship and for the first time, punch their ticket to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III National Tournament. After a high level of success, CSU and Show made the jump to the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC). Show's teams had a few big moments in the new conference, including making it all the way to the conference semifinals in 2008-09 and defeating the number two ranked team in the nation, Cabrini University, 106-97 in 2014.
The 2006 Women's Volleyball team made school history, becoming the first team from Clarks Summit University to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Tournament. With Dave Shoemaker leading the program, the Lady Defenders went 23-14, finishing 8-2 in the NEAC. Struggling at the beginning of the season, things seemed to turn around at the end of September as CSU ended the year 18-5. After splitting with Keuka College during the season, the Lady Defenders swept the Storm in the NEAC Finals as Emily (Harlan) Dewalt (regular season North Division Player of the Year) was named the
NEAC Tournament MVP, tallying 37 kills and 9 blocks. Emily (Harlan) Dewalt, Amy (Pausley) Konzelman and Jenette Cline were all named NEAC North Division First Team All-Conference. In the NCAA Division III Tournament, the Lady Defenders faced Stevens Institute of Technology, where they fell in straight sets. Amy (Pausley) Konzelman led all players that night with 12 kills.
