CSU Scholarship Opportunities

Returning undergraduate, graduate and seminary students can apply for multiple scholarships to help them reach their educational goals. Peruse the list below to see which scholarship criteria you meet.

Applications for the 2024-2025 academic year are open and are due Monday, April 22.

Undergraduate Scholarships

David Auckland Memorial Scholarship

  • criteria: Junior or senior student in Pastoral Ministries, Pastoral Ministries – Seminary Track, Intercultural Studies, or Intercultural Youth Ministries program, who is making progress toward a degree, or a student who already completed 15 credit hours at the graduate or seminary level. Minimum GPA of 2.5. Must possess a vitality in their Christian walk and a love for evangelism and interacting with other worldviews to lead people to faith and growth. Demonstrates academic merit, financial need and ministry potential.

Grant & Leona Auker Pastoral Endowment

  • criteria: Senior male Pastoral Ministries or Pastoral Ministries – Seminary Track student who has completed at least Expository Preaching. Recognized by homiletics professor as competent and well-equipped. Demonstrates pastoral potential of 1 Timothy 1:3-7, Titus 1:1-9, 1 Peter 5:1-3. Must possess qualifications of a pastor, including a distinct conviction of his call to the pastoral ministry. Financial need-based.

F. Watson Campbell Memorial Endowment

  • criteria: Open to all students; all will be considered equally for this scholarship which is awarded to deserving students, allowing the scholarship committee to consider various factors and each student’s unique potential for success.

Rembert Byrd Carter Endowment

  • criteria: Returning sophomore, junior or senior, male or female undergraduate student. Must have minimum GPA of 3.0. Must submit an essay as well as a letter of recommendation from both home church pastor and ministry leader. Trustee of Scholarships will select recipients.

Concerts of Worship & Praise Scholarship

  • criteria: Incoming sophomore, junior or senior; preferably a worship or music major; minimum 2.5 GPA; financial need; preferably a full-time student who has a heart for worship like the late CSU alum Robert Hayes; and demonstrates a willingness to serve God with their musical talents.

The Cowman Family International Scholarship

  • criteria:  This award was created by Robert (’85) and Lisa (’84) Cowman to promote diversity and inclusion among the student body at Clarks Summit University, reflecting their ministry to students from around the world. The recipient will be an international student who has completed at least one year of education at CSU and who shows a consistent desire to become Christ-Centered and Career-Ready. Recipients should demonstrate financial need and have a 3.0 GPA, though special situations may be considered.

Dale & Beatrice Davis College Endowment

  • criteria: Undergraduate upperclassmen, children of missionaries, and those training for full-time pastoral or mission work.

Robert G. Sr. and Elaine F. Decker Memorial Endowment

  • criteria: Undergraduate program students: one in Pastoral Ministries or Pastoral Ministries – Seminary Track; one majoring in Intercultural Studies or Intercultural Youth Ministries. Only two recipients.

Dyke Endowment

  • criteria: Open to all students; all will be considered equally for this scholarship which is awarded to deserving students, allowing the scholarship committee to consider various factors and each student’s unique potential for success. 

Wilson & Evelyn Galbraith Memorial Endowment

  • criteria: Provide assistance to university and seminary students, based on credit hours sold. 

Sally Holmes Gary Memorial Endowment

  • criteria: Sophomore or junior female studying Education, looking forward to such a ministry, giving evidence of stability of Christian character and purpose. Must have a B average or higher.

Harry Willis Gifford Memorial Endowment

  • criteria: Upperclassman married students from low-income background with a financial need and a GPA of 2.5 or above.

Arthur W. and Dorothy Glidewell Scholarship

  • criteria: undergraduate or seminary student in their last year of studies who desires to serve in either pastoral or missionary work.

Lewis Vivian & Verna Clanton Graham Endowed Scholarship

  • criteria: Female college student intent on entering full-time ministry following graduation. Students will only be considered if they exhibit characteristics consistent with ministry mindedness, godly discernment and spiritual leadership. Will receive 50% of the scholarship.

Roma Hanneman Memorial Endowment

  • criteria: Sophomore or junior, preferably in the Intercultural Studies or Intercultural Youth Ministries program, but also available to Education majors going into missions. Minimum GPA of 3.0, meeting satisfactory academic progress standards. Must be given equally to two students.

Ruth C. Haycock Memorial Endowment

  • criteria: Student who demonstrates Biblical philosophy of education and scholarship, financial need and shows promise for future teaching.

Robert D. Hayden Memorial Endowment

  • criteria: Upperclassman who is serious about and feels led to enter Christian service (preaching, teaching, etc.) or feels he or she is being called to some avenue of missionary endeavor and is in need of financial aid in order to fulfill this goal.

Douglas Heath Endowment

  • criteria: Open to all students; all will be considered equally for this scholarship which is awarded to deserving students, allowing the scholarship committee to consider various factors and each student’s unique potential for success. 

Margaret and Gordon Houser Endowment

  • criteria: financial need

Vera and Elmer Huckaby Memorial Endowment

  • criteria: Student with exceptional financial need and a burden for youth. Use all available funds every year.

Independent Baptist Church of Towanda Pastoral Scholarship 

  • criteria: Senior enrolled in Pastoral Studies, Pastoral Studies – Seminary Track, Youth Ministries or Intercultural Youth Ministry major who shows great potential as a future pastor or youth pastor. The recipient must demonstrate a true love of Christ’s church and a heart for God’s people. He must recognize the primacy of preaching and teaching and demonstrate ability to communicate God’s Word effectively and to handle God’s Word accurately. In character, he must meet the qualifications of 1 Timothy 3:1-7.

Paul Jackson Memorial Endowment

  • criteria: undergraduate with financial need

Dr. and Mrs. R. G. Kennedy Endowment

  • criteria: Pastoral Studies or Pastoral Studies – Seminary Track major exhibiting clear evidence of God’s calling in their lives to the full-time pastoral ministry. Children of faculty and trustees are not eligible.

Kenoyer Missionary Seminary Endowment

  • criteria: Sophomore or higher planning for full-time missionary service, preferably in an Asian country. A “B-level” student or higher with unreserved recommendation from his or her church. It would be preferable that the student match the funds from other funds or by work.

John H. and Rosalie J. Kleis Scholarship

  • criteria:  International students and students who are members of minority groups. Students must be committed to serving Christ through their careers. Eligibility will be reviewed each semester, and recipients are eligible to receive up to four annual awards.

Sarah McLeod Scholarship

  • criteria: If Trustee of Scholarships does not specify a specific student, may be awarded to a student from a rural or mountain area selected by school. Needs 2.0 GPA or higher.

Marilyn Rider Mitchell Endowment

  • criteria: Wife of junior or senior pushing toward a program of study that allows her to minister through her career. She should be highly supportive of her husband and their future ministry together. Her husband must meet satisfactory academic progress.

Ken & Eleanor Mosher Alumni Scholarship

  • criteria: Either children or grandchildren of CSU alumni or students who are recommended by two distinct alumni (not related to the recipients). Must make satisfactory academic progress, must possess good Christian character, and must demonstrate promise for Christian ministry.

Sidney and Delpha Petersen Endowment

  • criteria: Undergraduate upperclassmen who are children of pastors and training for full-time pastoral or missions work.

Pisanchyn Music Scholarship

  • criteria: Incoming junior or senior Music Education major with 3.0 GPA or higher and financial need; preferably full-time student who plans to teach music K-12 and serve God with musical talent. $1,500 award for one student.

Rudolph & Ware Minority Scholarship

  • criteria: Student who is spiritually mature, humble and relational with others regardless of race/ethnicity. A mentor of peers. Preferably recommended by someone of different ethnicity.

Stanley Salvigsen Memorial Endowment

  • criteria: Students who may need special encouragement due to circumstances such as illness, death in the family, or other such events (priority). Must meet satisfactory academic progress.

Arket J. Savige Endowment

  • criteria: College or seminary students may qualify. Descendants of Arket J. Savige and students from FBC of Johnson City, NY, receive first priority. Student must meet satisfactory academic progress standards as set forth by Clarks Summit University.

John and Ruth Saxby Endowment

  • criteria: Open to all students; all will be considered equally for this scholarship which is awarded to deserving students, allowing the scholarship committee to consider various factors and each student’s unique potential for success. 

Ernest A. Steckiel Endowment

  • criteria: Senior Pastoral Ministries or Pastoral Ministries – Seminary Track students showing a genuine love for ministry and a desire to see souls saved. Steckiel family reserves the right to designate a student by written notice to the college.

Dorothy Burt Steffes Memorial Endowment

  • criteria: Junior or senior female in Intercultural Studies or International Youth Ministry major or similar. The student must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Esther Gilbertson Stone Endowment

  • criteria: Pastoral Ministries or Pastoral Ministries – Seminary Track students exhibiting financial need, moral character and academic potential.

Gail Tolson Scholarship

  • criteria: Students dual-enrolled in undergraduate and seminary programs of study, starting full-time seminary studies in the fall, who are, or will be, married by the fall, and who possess a GPA of 3.7 or higher. 

Harriette Van Atter Endowment

  • criteria: Students from First Baptist Church, Mayville, NY (priority). If there are no students attending CSU from First Baptist Church, CSU will contact the church to determine if any students from the church plan to attend CSU in the next school year. If so, the scholarship will be held and given to students from First Baptist Church in the next school year. If not, the scholarship will be given to other needy students as determined by the student financial aid committee. Priority in awarding will be given first to students majoring in a pastoral- or missions-related program.

Elizabeth Van Campen Communications Scholarship

  • criteria: Communications major with a GPA of 3.5 or higher

Mel Walker Memorial Endowment

  • criteria: to help CSU students who seek to become youth pastors or be engaged in full-time youth ministry efforts.

Charles Wilkes Music Endowment

  • criteria: Music student.

Betty Ann Dahl Young Memorial Endowment

  • criteria: Student in the Intercultural Studies or International Youth Ministry major, with a genuine commitment to serving the Lord in missions. Preferably a student from NJ, NY or PA (although other areas may be included).

Post-Graduate Scholarship

David Auckland Memorial Scholarship

  • criteria: Junior or senior student in Pastoral Ministries, Pastoral Ministries – Seminary Track, Intercultural Studies, or Intercultural Youth Ministries program, who is making progress toward a degree, or a student who already completed 15 credit hours at the graduate or seminary level. Minimum GPA of 2.5. Must possess a vitality in their Christian walk and a love for evangelism and interacting with other worldviews to lead people to faith and growth. Demonstrates academic merit, financial need and ministry potential.

Mike Cagley Memorial Endowment

  • criteria: Grad student meeting satisfactory academic progress.

Seminary Scholarships

John Allen Seminary Endowment

  • criteria: Seminary-enrolled student who is intent on completing his studies toward a degree of Master of Divinity or Master of Ministry or a similar seminary Master level degree in preparation of becoming a pastor in a local church.

David Auckland Memorial Scholarship

  • criteria: Junior or senior student in Pastoral Ministries, Pastoral Ministries – Seminary Track, Intercultural Studies, or Intercultural Youth Ministries program, who is making progress toward a degree, or a student who already completed 15 credit hours at the graduate or seminary level. Minimum GPA of 2.5. Must possess a vitality in their Christian walk and a love for evangelism and interacting with other worldviews to lead people to faith and growth. Auker Seminary Endowment

  • criteria: Pastoral or missions student at the seminary with preference to those with families; well-rounded individual with interests, gifts and abilities that match his or her educational pursuits; GPA of 3.0 or higher.

W.W. Barndollar Seminary Endowment

  • criteria: Second year, male student with GPA of 3.5 or better in the area of biblical exposition.

 BBS Michigan Pastoral Studies Endowment

  • criteria: BBS students who are current MARBC pastors and church planters, or BBS students who are from Michigan and plan to minister in Michigan, or BBS students who plan to minister in Michigan. Based on academic merit, financial need and ministry potential.

Howard A. and Ruth I. Bixby Endowment

  • criteria: Seminary student from New England who desires to return and serve in pastoral ministry. Must evidence academic merit, financial need, ministry potential, and plans to minister in New England.

Howard and Carol Bixby Church Evangelism Seminary Endowment

  • criteria: Student who has completed 30 credit hours at time of reward. Demonstrates spirit of compassion for the lost by the habitual practice of personal or church group evangelism.

Richard Engle Memorial Scholarship

  • criteria: Seminary student who, in the opinion of the faculty, has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the study of Biblical Hebrew, “alacrity” in exegesis, and an appreciation for its use in preaching and teaching. Must have completed 30 credits of seminary work, cumulative GPA of 3.0+, and demonstrate a love for the First Testament.

Ethnic Minority Student Scholarship

  • criteria: Seminary student who is committed to church planting in North America. Minimum of 20 credits completed, 2.5 GPA. Ethnic minority or international student with financial need. Written recommendation for vocational ministry.

Expository Preaching Seminary Endowment

  • criteria: Seminary student who demonstrate skills evidenced in expository preaching, must have an evaluation by the seminary faculty, and must have the recommendation of the Pastoral Theology Department.

  • criteria: Provide assistance to university and seminary students, based on credit hours sold.
