Big Blue Sports Camps - Clarks Summit University

Defender Youth Summer Sports Camps Cancelled: 4.22.2020

In the best interest of our coaches and campers, Clarks Summit University is cancelling the Defender Basketball Camp and Big Blue Basketball camp, originally scheduled for the summer of 2020.

Planning for these events would need to be happening now. At a time when recommendations change rapidly and summer plans are uncertain due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the CSU Response Team and Athletic Department has decided camp cancellation is the best decision at this time.

We look forward to welcoming young athletes back on campus for sports camps in the summer of 2021!

Camp Director: Coach Brian Deschaine

Before coming to Clarks Summit University as head men’s basketball coach, Brian Deschaine spent six years leading the men’s basketball team at Grace Christian Academy in Waldorf, Maryland. Under his leadership, the Knights won numerous regular season conference and tournament championships. Coach Deschaine’s teams have fared well outside of their conference, winning the Mid-East Regional Christian Schools Tournament in 2017 and earning Runner-up in the 2015 Division I Maryland Christian State Tournament.

A father of three young boys, Coach Deschaine got his coaching start at Harmony Christian School, where he led a successful high school boy’s program for four years. He also spent a year in Bangladesh at the William Carey Academy developing both boys’ and girls’ basketball programs. For three years, Clinton Christian School saw Deschaine at the helm of their boys’ basketball program, where they were ranked in the state and were both regular season and tournament champions.

As a four-year letter winner and a three-year starter, Deschaine played college basketball at Eastern Nazarene College, where he was a member of the 1996-97 ECAC Championship Team. Coach Deschaine graduated from Eastern Nazarene College with a B.A. in Psychology and earned his B.S and M.A. in Health and Physical Education from CSU.

Deschaine has worked beyond coaching as athletic director, director of student affairs, physical education teacher and secondary principal. He also spent 2001-2005 in the United States Army Reserves.
