“Sing and Rejoice” with Clarks Summit University

“Sing and Rejoice” with Clarks Summit University

Clarks Summit University’s Spring Concert will be held April 22 and 23 at 7 p.m. in the historic Murphy Memorial Library in Jackson Hall on Clarks Summit University’s campus. This year’s theme is “Sing and Rejoice” as the main purpose of music is to sing and rejoice together. Students will perform a wide array of pieces and genres, including performances by the university choir, women’s choir, student soloists, solo instrumentals, instrumental groups and a jazz band. “The exciting thing is that what you’re coming to hear is not centrally any one thing,” says choir director and professor Adam Schwamb. “It’s not a full jazz concert or a choral concert but taste of all of the flavors of what is happening musically at our school—jazz ensemble, solos, choral ensembles, instrumental works—all in a beautiful venue.”

The concert represents what CSU hopes to teach students and help them develop into Christ-Centered and Career-Ready graduates. Schwamb says, “It’s a smorgasbord of visual and auditory arts and really a good synthesis of who we are as a university, showing what we believe and the excellence we’re hoping to instill in our students.” In addition, many of the performers are non-music majors, so the concert will represent the entire campus through their music. “…it truly represents all of campus.”

Schwamb believes that concerts help musicians by creating a goal to work toward and can share what they are working on. “Any recital or concert is an opportunity to really explore how well you know something,” says Schwamb, “and it’s also an exercise in communicating. Students are taking what they’re learning here and communicating it in the most effective—and affective—way possible to listeners.”

Communication plays a big part of the concert, as performers are sharing a message to the audience through music. Schwamb says that he hopes the audience will “leave feeling refreshed and grateful for spending an hour of hearing good music that is joyous and celebratory.” The Spring Concert will give students the chance to use their diverse talents to bring glory to God and rejoice together. Come relax and rejoice with them!
