CSU’s 87th Commencement: May 11, 2019

On Saturday, May 11, Clarks Summit University will hold a Commencement ceremony for the graduating class of 2019. This year marks the university’s 87th Commencement.

More than 200 graduates will be awarded, including 116 undergraduate degrees, 43 master’s degrees and 42 degrees at the master’s or doctoral level from Baptist Bible Seminary.

Dr. Bill Higley, vice president of academics, will present the candidates for graduation. He says, “In the unique context and mission of CSU, we celebrate what God has done in the lives of our graduates to get them to this point. Moreover, we celebrate how God is going to use our graduates for in His eternal purposes in the world they are entering—and that could be in any vocation and in any location around the world, as our graduates have been doing for 87 years.”

Commencement Speaker

This year’s Commencement address will be made by Roddy Hannah, an associate pastor of adult ministries at Cocalico Community Church. Hannah graduated from CSU in 2007 with a master’s degree in Counseling. He was a part of the CSU family for many years, serving in positions such as maintenance, director of career services, associate provost for student development and vice president of student development. Hannah is excited to speak at this year’s commencement, stating, “I want students to know and understand that God has created them for a purpose—a purpose only they can fulfill.”

Student Speakers

Graduating students will also address the audience, including:

• Jessica Eddy of Worthington, Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications
• Jesse King of Newburgh, New York, with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications
• Carleigh Smith of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, with a Master of Arts in Literature
• Paul Cummings of Pittsboro, Indiana with a Master of Divinity
• John Altizer of Peterstown, West Virginia, with a Doctor of Philosophy in Systematic Theology

Ceremony Highlights

Dr. Kezia Curry is a member of the university’s Board of Trustees and president and CEO of Global Kaleidoscope, LLC-Educational Consulting. She will be performing a vocal solo of her original song “The One.” The Concert Choir, under the direction of conductor Adam Schwamb, will also be performing at this year’s ceremony, singing “Battle of Jericho” arranged by Mark Hayes.

Commencement Details

Commencement will begin at 10 a.m. Guests are invited to attend the ceremony in the Recreation Center on CSU’s campus, or they can tune into the live broadcast of the event online.

Colleen Noll is a Communications-Writing major from Spring Brook Twp., Pennsylvania, who will graduate during CSU’s 87^th Commencement
