Dr. Jim King Retires from CSU

Published January 9, 2017

After 26 years of ministry at Clarks Summit University, Dr. Jim King retired on December 30, 2016.

An Army veteran, King was selected for instructor training and taught at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey from 1966-1968. He served a missionary to Chad, Africa for seven years with Baptist Mid-Missions. There, he and his wife, Carol, planted churches, and King taught in the Bible institute’s pastoral training program.

King earned a bachelor’s degree from CSU in 1975, master’s degree from Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary in 1983 and Doctor of Missiology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

King returned to the US to teach at Practical Bible Training School (now Davis College) in Johnson City, NY, before moving to Clarks Summit in 1989. He has served on the advisory board for ABWE International and the steering committee for the NY Intern Center for World Evangelism.

“Jim’s expertise, love for learning and entrepreneurial spirit have allowed him to wear many hats,” admits Dr. Bill Higley, vice president for academics. King has taught at both the undergraduate and seminary level. He helped pioneer and lead both CSU’s online program and the graduate school. He directed Baptist Bible Seminary’s Doctor of Ministry program. Most recently, he provided leadership to all of the university’s online programs. He and his wife, Carol, who also served as a professor and dean of women at CSU, also take on teaching, speaking and consulting opportunities.

“But more than any of these responsibilities, Jim and Carol have been mentors and friends to students and colleagues here at CSU,” continues Higley. “Their quiet and loving ministry to people over the years has produced spiritual fruit that only heaven knows.”

King and his wife have three children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. They serve at Parker Hill Community Church.
