Organizers are gearing up for this summer, when CSU hosts one of the premiere youth events in this country. Teen Leadership Conference, held on two separate weeks in July, is designed for godly Christian teenagers who are serious about making an impact for Christ.
Expecting Life-Changing Experiences
God has greatly blessed the ministry of CSU’s Teen Leadership Conference ever since it was started in 1969 by Coach Jim Huckaby as a leadership training event for church youth groups.
This summer, hundreds of students from across the country will engage in relevant and practical Biblical teaching from dynamic speakers and will leave with practical training from the conference. Affectionately known as TLC, the conference will be held July 17-22 and July 24-29, 2017. The weeklong experience is for high school students who want to be leaders in their churches, schools and communities.
The event will bring the same high-energy fun, life-changing workshops, passionate worship and friendship building as students and youth leaders have come to expect.
Meeting Fresh Faces
This year will bring new leaders at the helm. Mel Walker, CSU’s vice president for communications and external relations, will serve as director. A veteran youth ministry specialist, Walker is a former youth pastor, former instructor of youth ministry, writer and editor of church youth group curriculum and author of several books on various youth ministry topics. He is cofounder and president of Vision For Youth, an international network of youth ministries. Plus, he has been actively involved in various aspects of TLC for over 30 years.
Fred Defendorf, CSU’s coordinator of student life and resident director, will serve as co-director. He will lend his expertise in leading and training TLC counselors. Fred too, is a veteran youth worker with a great deal of practical experience with students as a former camp director and with students on the campus of CSU.
